Social Action Ministry

Monthly Meetings

The St. Elizabeth Seton Social Action Ministry meets monthly on the first Thursday of the month in the St. Elizabeth Seton Conference Room located in the Parish Office. The Social Action Ministry is open to all who desire to work through the parish on social action and justice projects.

How We Serve

  • Shepherd's Table Soup Kitchen
  • The St. Elizabeth Social Action Ministry cooks every third Sunday and fifth Saturday of the month at the Daybreak Shelter, 611 Cass Ave. in Joliet and serves the homeless at the Shepherd's Table Soup Kitchen. To volunteer please contact LIz Wisnasky at 708-614-6475 or email geewiz018@aol.com.

  • Sharing Parish with St. Procopius Church
  • St. ELizabeth Seton Church and St. Procopius Church have been paired through the Archdiocese program that brings together diverse parishes in order to increase the effectiveness of each parish. Annually, we hold collection drives for clothing, household items, Christmas presents, and Thanksgiving turkeys and hams. Monthly envelopes are also offered to contribute to the financial support of St. Procopius. St. Procopius responds regularlly with thanks, shared liturgies, and annually extends an invitation to attend their Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe Celebration.

  • Haiti Burial Cloth Workshop
  • Workshops are offered to make desperately needed burial cloths for the deceased people of Haiti. Flat sheets and pillowcases are always appreciated.

  • Heart Warmers
  • This ministry provides meals when a family member is hospitallized or undergoing treatment and also when a parishioner has a temporary or chronic condition that makes meal preparation difficult. To request assistance or to offer to prepare a meal please contact Sharon Grill at 708-460-5468 or email sgrill15@att.net.

  • Roses For Life
  • St. Elizabeth Seton actively supports local pro-life agencies for women in crisis pregnancies through an annual Roses For Life event each Mother's Day.

  • Life Chain Sunday
  • St. Elizabeth Seton parishioners and their families are encouraged to participate in a silent, prayerful protest against abortion for one hour (2:30-3:30pm) on the first Sunday of October. Signs are distributed with positive life-affirming messages.

  • Respond Now Outreach
  • Respond Now is a social service agency located in Chicago Heights that serves the needy in the far southwest suburbs. St. Elizabeth Seton Social Action Ministry assists with social action projects throughout the year. For more information visit their website at www.respondnow.org.
